| The Hermes "WHY
58X38" $142 million luxury
craft is more floating mansion than yacht. Designed by
the high fashion luxury fashion
company, Hermes
(http://www.hermes.com),
better known for $4,000 Birkin handbags and printed silk scarves,
and Monaco-based colosal
shipbuilder, Wally,
(http://www.wally.com),
the WHY
(Wally-Hermes-Yacht) is 58 meters long by 38 meters wide (190
ft x 125 ft). |
|
 |
| It is 3 stories tall and has a helicopter pad, spa, sauna, gym, massage room, music room, dining room, cinema, sun decks,
5 suites, terraces, lounge and a 25 meter (82 ft) interior swimming pool with a 36 meter (118
ft) "beach" along the back. The
5 master
suites all have floor-to-ceiling sea views. |
|
 |
| This is a "green" yacht. It has a diesel-electric propulsion system and the 900
sq meters (2,952 sq ft) of solar panels covering the roof and sides of the vessel save 20% to 30% of the fuel and 40 to 50% electricity consumption on board producing a daily output of 500
kW. This means it could save at least 200 tons of diesel fuel a year. |
|
 |
It has a diesel-electric propulsion system
and the design of the hull means that
the yacht uses less power at cruising speed than another boat of equal size. |
|
 |
| The lower deck
has a lounge, piano bar and dining area and 25
meter (82 ft) interior, heated swimming pool with a 36 meter (118
ft) "beach" along the back. The terrace
on the back is 30 meters
wide (98 ft) and can accommodate
a party of 50 people. |
|
 |
| The yacht looks very unfamiliar but living space is the greatest luxury on the sea. With a total of 3400 square meters (11,154
sq ft) of open space, seating for 12 passengers and a crew of 20, the WHY 58X38 certainly excels in that
area. |
|
 |
| The interior of the yacht is fitted out with water resistant buffalo leather using the calpinage technique. Anchored, the boat creates a totally flat surface behind it, like an
olympic-size pool where you can swim in total peace. |
